Infinity Penthouse

San Francisco, CA  The Infinity Tower penthouse explored our client’s scientific interests as a method of informing the design of his residence.

Conceptually, we looked at the fractal patterns created in Chaos Theory algorithms as a metaphor for the connection of spaces within the living environment.

Wood, glass and concrete were examined as primary materials to inform each space. Compound curved stainless steel frames supported walnut wood slats and stacked glass that together formed elegantly curved surfaces along the walls and ceiling that flow from one space into another. For the concrete panels, new high-strength techniques were examined to create thin shell surfaces that involved 3D software to create complex design patterns, and CNC milling machines to carve intricate digital patterns for formwork.
